Theoretical Framework
This research and its empirical findings are organised around three research areas that align with the aims of the project.
1) Self, Identity, and Islamic Rituals
Self, Identity, and Islamic Rituals responds to the first aim of identifying, describing, and analysing forms of participation in Islamic rituals and faith-based cultural activities among Muslims in selected Western cities.
2) Religious Practices, Public Space, and Social Connectedness
Religious Practices, Public Space, and Social Connectedness relates to the aim of investigating the extent to which Islamic beliefs, values, and faith-based participation contribute to local and national belonging.
3) Citizenship, Belonging, and Political Engagement in a Changing Geopolitical Context
Citizenship, Belonging, and Political Engagement in a Changing Geopolitical Context analyses how spiritual and cultural religiosity among practising Muslims impedes or provides possibilities for political engagement.
